Javier Muro was born in Pamplona (Navarra) in 1968. His evolution within the world of sculpture has been constant, developing a consolidated professional career. In 1989, when he was barely twenty years old, he won the First Prize for Sculpture "Pamplona, young artists" and in 1991 a scholarship to help creation in Plastic Arts awarded by the Prince of Viana Institution of the Government of Navarra.
The decade of the 1990s meant multiple awards for him, as well as participation in important competitions, among which it is worth mentioning the Burgos National Sculpture Contest in 1993, the XI International Sports Biennial at the Fine Arts in Madrid 1995, the of Sculpture of the "Bilaketa Contest" of Aoiz in 1997, etc. Prizes of greater consideration are the Second Prize of the XXIII National Sculpture Contest "Caja Madrid" and First Prize in the National Competition "II Navarra Sculpture Prize" in 1999; First Prize Trophy of the 'Castell Ruiz' Contest of Tudela; and the First National Prize for Sculpture "Caja España" in 2003. Subsequently, he has obtained the following awards: Honorable Mention in the II Alfa Arte Multiple Sculpture Contest (2004), First prize in the III Youth Award Sculpture Contest of Navarra (2005), First Prize in the 33rd Julio Antonio Sculpture Contest, Tarragona Art Biennial (2006), First Prize for sculpture trophy for the "Punto de Vista" International Documentary Film Festival of the Government of Navarra (2007) , He obtained the Grant for Creation in Plastic Arts and Photography from the Government of Navarra (2009) and the First Prize for sculpture 'Soraluce, 50th Anniversary, for construction and placement of monumental Sculpture in Soraluce (Guipúzcoa) in 2011.
He has made numerous exhibitions throughout the national territory both in museums and institutional halls as well as in private art galleries. It is worth noting the exhibitions at the Museum of Navarra in 2000, at the Museum of Modern Art in Tarragona in 2009, and at the Huarte Contemporary Art Center in 2010, as well as the Gustavo de Maeztu Museum in Estella (1995), Palacio de Olite (2009) and in the exhibition halls of the Ciudadela (1990, 1995, 1999). But his work has toured numerous national art centers such as the San Telmo Museum, the MEIAC, the Kursaal, the Madrid Community Hall, the University of Granada, the Leonés Institute of Culture, the MACUF, the Patio Herreriano Museum, etc. And he has crossed borders, participating in the Miami Art Fair and Miami Art Now in 2007 and 2008.
Javier Muro has worked and exhibited in several galleries such as Altxerri and Vetusart (now Cibirian) in San Sebastián; Luis Burgos, Seiquer, Astarte, Tribeca and La Nave del Arte in Madrid; Moisés Pérez de Albéniz (Pamplona and Madrid), with whom he attended the ARCO MADRID and DFOTO SAN SEBASTIAN art fairs; Talka in Victoria; Mainel in Burgos; Apaindu, Mikel Armendia, Pintzel and Chinese ink in Pamplona.
His work is part of institutional collections such as the Museum of Navarra, the Museum of Modern Art of Tarragona, the Pamplona Contemporary Art Collection, the Caja Madrid and Caja España Foundations, the Government of Navarra or the official residence of the Princes of Spain; and in private institutions like McDonalds.
In addition to all this trajectory, his name jumped into the media for being the author of the sculpture, representing San Fermín, which the Pamplona City Council gave to Don Felipe de Borbón and Doña Leticia Ortiz, on the occasion of their marriage. Likewise, he is the author of the piece that the Government of Navarra offered to the prince on his visit to Navarra as an institutional gift.
Javier Muro's sculpture has a clear interest in design and conceptual and poetic reflections. He is an artist who knows how to move between figuration and abstraction, using everyday objects in his aesthetics, achieving works very much in line with current art, interrogative, conceptual sculptures, with metaphorical and symbolic load. The Public Sculpture that he has installed in Navarra can be seen in Pamplona at the UPNA and the Fuerte Príncipe Residence, and in the Señorío de Bértiz. But he also has other public works in Burgos (in front of the Museum of Human Evolution), in Chile or South Korea.
