Marijose Recalde is a contemporary Navarrese sculptor and painter, born in Pamplona in 1964, although most of her childhood was spent in the village of Sartaguda. She defines herself as “a multidisciplinary artist in the ancient trades; painting, sculpture and wood engraving ”.

Her work is focused on the human figure, always with a cheerful and vital tone, and on his best friend, the dog. Marijose Recalde uses unconventional materials that she rescues, expanding their lives. She experiments with its possibilities and plays with them in a new way. In her work, the surprise prevails over the craft and experimentation generates new ways of working. Therefore, in the spiral of her development as artist, everything fits, sculpture, engraving, textiles or collage.

The artist has also opened her workshop to meetings with people of different ages inorder to carry out joint creative projects. She also holds workshops, especially with children, that are usually focused on recycling and environmental education.

Marijose Recalde studied drawing at the School of Arts and Crafts in Pamplona, graduating in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country in 1990. She completed her training with various woodcut courses at the International Center for Contemporary Print in Betanzos (Galicia) , in Bilbao Arte with Gil Shacha and in Rodalquilar (Almería) with Miguel Villariño.

In 1987 she won the first prize for painting at the Plastic Arts Contest of Navarra and in 1988, the first prize for sculpture in the same contest. Later, in 1993, she won the first Pamplona Young Artists sculpture prize and in 1999 the first Caja de España Sculpture Prize. In 2007 she won the competition organized by the Public Works Department of Navarra for the realization of a large-format sculpture in the Ezkaba roundabout in Burlada.

Marijose Recalde has carried out numerous individual exhibitions, including the installation carried out at the Gustavo de Maeztu Museum in 1996 and the exhibition "Journey to Knowledge" at the Public University of Navarra (2001). In 2001 she also exhibited "Portraits of Artists" in the Mixed room of the Pamplona citadel and a year later in the Museum of Navarra "Always there is Joy".

In 2007 she held the exhibition "The sweet side of life" at the Arteko Gallery in San Sebastian. In 2009 she exhibited at the Gayarre Theater in Pamplona and in 2011 she had the opportunity to show her vision of the simple life through eleven works in the exhibition "Domestic Life", which she presented at the Arenatzarte outdoor sculpture park, in Güeñes . During her professional career, she has participated in more than 50 group exhibitions. Furthermore, her work can be found in the Caja Navarra Collection, Caja España Collection, CIEC Foundation Collection, Museum of Navarra, Pamplona City Council and Güeñes.

In April 2012, the Government of Navarra, through the INAAC foundation, granted economic aid to Julia Juániz for the production of the medium-length film «The language of objects», a documentary that explains the artistic work of Recalde.
