Eagle Warrior
€4,00
This model is based on a standard-bearing sculpture from the Popoloca (Ngigua) culture..The original dates between 900 and 1521 AD and is made of diorite. The piece was found in Ndachjian (Tehuacá) and is regularly exhibited at the Tehuacán Site Museum. The flayed face of the sculpture is linked to telluric deities. Its necklace of hearts and a skull alludes to sacrifice, and its anklets with bells are associated with dance. In the cavity of the chest, a precious stone was placed to activate it as a link between the human and the divine. The warrior wears an eagle as a kind of cloak, a symbol of the upper world, the day, and the masculine. It represents the principle of duality which, in the Indigenous worldview of the universe, ensures the continuity of time, the world, and life. This model was photogrammetrized by Artmonite at the Archaeological Museum of Madrid as part of a loan for the exhibition Women in Indigenous Mexico.
