Mictlantecuhtli God of Death
€5,50
This model was obtained from a large mural in the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City, depicting Mictlantecuhtli, the god of the dead and ruler of the last level of Mictlán. The original is made of raw clay and still retains some of its original ochre pigment. The emaciated-looking figure sits on a throne and wears a large headdress with a bat, an animal associated with the underworld, in the middle. He is adorned with ear ornaments, a pectoral and a maxtlatl. He is flanked by skulls and two murals. This work was found in the settlement of El Zapotal, in the state of Veracruz, whose flowering corresponds to the Classic period (300-900 AD) and was photogrammetrized by Artmonite during a trip to Mexico in 2024.
