Stela of Germán

4,00

This model was obtained from the Stela of Germán. This stela pays tribute to Germán Rodríguez Sáiz who, after the tragic events of the 1978 Sanfermines, was fatally wounded by a gunshot during the police charges. The stela was originally placed at the site of the incident and has had a turbulent history. The first sculpture, made of stone, was smashed with hammers, and replaced by another one that was later blown up with explosives. A third stela, this time made of bronze, was installed again and remained for twenty years until it was removed in 2005 due to construction work. In 2007, the governing team of the Pamplona City Council decided not to reinstall it and to replace it with a commemorative plaque. At the request of Hilarria, in 2007 a new stela was installed on Roncesvalles Avenue (a few meters from where the previous one had been located), along with a plaque bearing an inscription in Spanish and Basque: “Pamplona, in memory of Germán Rodríguez and the Sanfermines of ’78.” This stela was photogrammetrized by Artmonite in 2025.
