20th Century Sculpture

el-beso-1907

The 20th century is a breakthrough period for art. The avant-gardes of the beginning of the century revolutionized the concept of art that first affected painting and later sculpture. Sculpture will change its theme, becoming more abstract and gradually abandoning figuration and new materials will also emerge that will complement the already classic ones such as stone, wood, bronze or marble. Iron, plastic and resins, among other raw materials, will make their appearance as well as polymateric works. The artists will focus on textures, volumes and spaces to create their works. Sculpture will evolve hybridizing with other artistic forms and breaking the boundaries of the genre itself with land art, conceptual art or multimedia.
