Kakaesenov (Agadzhan) – Singer

This model was created from the sculpture Singer by Agadzhan Kakaesenov. The original work is part of the collection held at the Museum of Local History of Mary Province, in Turkmenistan. The museum, located in the city of Mary, houses collections related to the history, archaeology, ethnography, and arts of the region, and devotes an important part of its exhibitions to Turkmen culture and artistic heritage. As part of its Fine Arts of Turkmenistan exhibition, the museum presents painting, drawing, ceramics, and sculpture. According to information published by the institution itself, these works are particularly important because they reflect the national characteristics, customs, traditions, and history of the Turkmen people. Kakaesenov is mentioned by the museum among artists working in ceramics, alongside Solmaz Muhamedova, Bajram Annagulyev, and Maral Ataeva. The museum notes that their works are characterised by national content and by a search for unity among plastic forms. Singer can be understood within this artistic context, in which contemporary artistic creation maintains a close relationship with the cultural identity of Turkmenistan. The museum also devotes part of its collections to ancient Margiana and Merv, one of the great historical centres of Central Asia. In this way, the works of modern artists such as Kakaesenov are presented within a space where past and present form part of the same cultural narrative.
