Colossal head
€3,50
This model was obtained from a monumental head that is in the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City. This work belongs to the Olmec civilization, which gave fundamental importance to man and in particular to the head. In their stonework they created ideal facial features with which they produced monumental heads of political or spiritual leaders. To date, 17 sculptures have been located in three sites on the coastal plain of the Gulf of Mexico, all with distinct facial features, indicating that they reproduce specific individuals. The various insignia on the helmets could indicate identifying emblems. The sculpture was photogrammetrized by Artmonite during a trip to Mexico in 2024.
