Bull bitten by lion

€3,50

The present work is very unique due to the subject represented and its dating. It is a sculptural group in which a lion (whose head is missing), bites a bull. In the work you can see a lion's paw on the bull's head and another on one side of it. Just unlike the lion, the bull has a head, but the body was ignored by the sculptor. The original of this set is made of limestone and dates from the late 6th or early 5th century BC. Due to its chronology, this sculpture would be pre-Roman or perhaps Etruscan. The set was donated in 1876 by Baron Benedetto Salamone de Mistretta and is currently in the Antonio Salinas archaeological museum in Palermo. The work was photogrammetrized by Artmonite during a visit to the museum in 2021.
