Head of Augustus
€4,00
This model was taken from a head of Octavian, the true founder of the Roman Empire and the Julio-Claudian dynasty. The title of Augustus was given to him by the Senate in 27 BC and Augustus quickly became his name as well as that of all his successors. The pattern of the frontal locks is identical to the Prima Portatype, where a sculpture of Augustus was found, today in the Vatican and which was inspired by an effigy of the Greek sculptor Polykleitos. This work was photogrammetrized by Artmonite at the Archaeological Museum of Toulouse (Saint Raymond Museum) during a visit to the city in 2025.
