Iberian Lady from Cerro de los Santos

This model is based on an Iberian sculpture depicting a seated lady. The original was made of limestone and sculpted in the 3rd century BC, measuring 68 cm in height. The work comes from the Sanctuary of Cerro de los Santos, in Montealegre del Castillo (Albacete, Spain). The figure, characterized by pronounced facial features, is seated on a chair and richly dressed in a tunic, mantle, tiara, a diadem decorated with geometric motifs, a necklace, and footwear. Her posture and clothing suggest that she may be interpreted as a mature woman of high social status, while her enthroned representation is also associated with the imagery of Eastern deities. This type of iconography is known in the Iberian funerary context, as demonstrated by the Lady of Baza, and the sculptures from Cerro de los Santos constitute a fundamental source for understanding the clothing and religious practices of the elites of Iberian society between the 4th and 2nd centuries BC.
