Crowned Horus, Edfu

4,00

This model was created from a sculpture of the crowned Horus located at the Temple of Edfu. Carved from a hard gray stone and preserved in an excellent state, it depicts Horus in the form of a falcon wearing the Double Crown, symbolizing the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt. The Temple of Edfu, dedicated to the worship of Horus, was built during the Ptolemaic period between the 3rd and 1st centuries BC and is one of the best-preserved temples in all of Egypt. Its massive walls, covered with reliefs and inscriptions, depict religious ceremonies, offerings, and mythological episodes associated with the god. In Egyptian mythology, Horus was the son of Osiris and Isis. After Osiris was murdered by his brother Seth, Horus was raised under the protection of Isis and, upon reaching adulthood, challenged Seth to reclaim the throne that was rightfully his. Their struggle symbolized the conflict between order and chaos, a fundamental concept in Egyptian religion. Ultimately, Horus prevailed and became the legitimate king of Egypt. The statue stands out for the simplicity and elegance of its forms. This sculpture was digitized through photogrammetry by Artmonite during a visit to Edfu in 2026.
