Sergel (Johan Tobias) – Eros and Psyche

The myth of Eros (Cupid) and Psyche tells how Aphrodite, envious of Psyche's beauty, orders Eros, her son, to make the young woman fall in love with the most unpleasant man who existed. However, Eros himself ends up falling in love with Psyche and marrying her. This sculpture by J.T. Sergel shows the protagonists of the myth in a serene classicist style. The original, exhibited in the Prado Museum, dates from 1800 and measures 74 x 45.5 cm.
